Remittances Up 6.4% in 2021

The CBE (Central Bank of Egypt) reported that remittances from Egyptians abroad increased by 6.4% in 2021. This increase of USD1.9bn brings the total value of remittances in 2021 to USD31.5bn.

Earlier, CAPMAS (The Center for Public Mobilization & Statistics) had mentioned that Egypt is the 6th top recipient of remittances globally in 2020 based on a study by the World Bank. According to the Bank, these remittances represent 6.7% of Egypt’s total GDP. The government’s IDSC (Information & Decision Support Center) had also reported that remittances grew by 72% during the period 2015-2021.
